a journey through space and time

Cabbages & Kings

March19

With it being a rather long time since an update to this here blog the above title makes alot of sense - in the Disney adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland (Wikipedia) the Mad Hatter tells a story:

'The time has come,' the walrus said, 'to talk of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabages and kings'

So onto the many things. First off something you must have noticed - snow! Yes it was a week ago this morning that I first looked out onto the whiteness and gazed with wonder at the ground as I slipped and fell on my arse. Being a mature adult I enjoyed the snow by riding down a field in a kids plastic sledge for a few hours, getting buried in the stuff by some friends and being attacked by sheep.

Sheep also featured in my walk on Monday. After the snow fun on Sunday a few of us went up nearby Holcombe Hill where we saw some truly excellent views and realised it was very cold (ice on everything that wasn't covered in snow). Unfortunately I forgot to bring my camera and so I went up again on Monday to get some pictures. It wasn't quite as good as most of it in the valley had melted, but my hair got a thorough blow dry from gale force winds. Which would have been good if I'd actually washed it first. The sheep featured because the wooly loons were up there eating grass (how, I don't know) whilst I sailed through the air dragged by an errant umbrella.

Onto stories of more sheep and we saw a few up in the Lake District yesterday when we went up for a walk. It was a long drive but very much worth it, some fantastic views from the top of Wetherlam (Lakes Walks). Sliding down snowy slopes (big ones) is something no one can fail to enjoy.

Now I did mention pictures earlier, but I'll edit this with those when my new blog system is finished.

Second thing to mention is that I lost my job, meaning I'm parted from dear Henry (1ke Blog). I plan to go in and get a picture of him before I'm gone for good.

My subscription to World of Warcraft (WoW) ends tonight. It's a great game but takes up a little too much time and money, though I may return in future. At some point I'll put up my World of Wacraft diaries so that both the players and the un-initiated can read my tale.

Scrapping the barrel I picked up Vampire: Bloodlines (Gamespot) this week. I've yet to play it but reviews and comments I've heard say it's very good. Gamespot scores are usually on the low side.

And finally, for those of you interested in books (and hey, even those that aren't) make sure you've read as many as possible of Raymond E. Fesit's fantasy works of genius (Play.com). I finished the first of his latest series this morning (Talon of the Silver Hawk) and as always it was great. Start with Magician and that should have a series list for you to get the rest in the right order. Excellence distilled in words.

I'll leave you this moment with a promise of the new system being finished soon and at least 'every other day' updates from here on in.

And Google won!

Type the word that appears under the picture of a badger. Why?

Your Comment:

These days spam bots are a problem for websites. They post crap in comments and ruin things for everybody. However asking them to perform tests such as identifying badgers stops them in their tracks, despite how easy it is for you.
